We only awaken once
a lifetime. One as
the sun the other as
rooster crowing. Then
a horse surrounded by
its stable, interchangeable.
Or two ducks hiding in
the reeds only to be
found by a fish! Further on
two cows eating the moonlight
and walking off the horizon-
fence into new pastures.
Or tongue -in-groove barn siding
its paint chipping and falling,
swept away by the wind, then
awakening as farmer and farm.
